Discov3ry Update #23

Assembly and Testing has Begun

All of the parts needed to create the Discov3ry Beta Backer units have arrived to our office. During the assembly process units will be going through quality testing to make sure all parts are functioning as planned. Provided that testing is successful we will be scaling to the rest of the 380+ units.

Discov3ry Update #21

Happy New Year!

We began last week in full swing after a rejuvenating holiday break. We hope you had a wonderful holiday as well. After last year's successful launch of the Discov3ry, we have big plans for 2015! First and foremost, we will begin shipping the Discov3ry Beta units soon, followed by the remaining Kickstarter orders and any additional pre-orders. We very much appreciate your patience as we worked to get the manufacturing design of the Discov3ry finalized so these first shipments are of a high quality.

Discov3ry Update #19

Toronto Mini MakerFaire

As we told you in earlier updates, last weekend was MakerFaire Toronto, and we were excited to attend and be an event sponsor.  This was our 5th and final MakerFaire of the year, and the closest one to home. It was great to see many friends of Structur3d; from backers, to family and friends - a huge shout out to you all for your support!

Discov3ry Update #17

This week I wanted to share a couple of the important (and exciting things) Charles and I have been focused on at Structur3d:

  • Bringing on new Structur3d team members to help scale Discov3ry manufacturing;
  • Developing manufacturing and testing procedures and Discov3ry assembly line;
  • Building out and testing beta Discov3ry units (minus enclosure);
  • Exploring larger production and office space for new year; and
  • Community outreach - MakerClub and STEM Week (more in Epic Print of the Week)

Discov3ry Update #16

(Canadians) Save the date -

November 22/23 - Toronto Mini Maker Faire

To all of our great maker supporters who, like us, live in their homemade igloos north of the border, Makerfaire is Coming!

We are official sponsors of the Toronto Mini Maker Faire, the greatest show and tell on earth, on the weekend of November 22 and 23, 2014.  it is taking place at the Toronto Reference Library and will be showcasing makers from all around.

We are really excited to participate here in our own backyard! It also gives us the opportunity to share the magic of MakerFaires with our backers, friends and family who could not make it to our other faires.

Tickets are available FREE here. Although we encourage you to donate what you can to the MAKE Toronto organization. This will help to keep it coming back bigger and better every year (and even move out of the Mini stage).

Discov3ry Production Update #15

To make sure there are a bunch of exciting 3D models designed specifically for paste printing available when we ship the Discov3ry, we are sponsoring the 3D Printing Subreddit contest for the month. We will be giving away a Discov3ry to one of the talented designers, but we need some more submissions.

If you have the skills (or the determination to learn) to design in CAD, we really want you to enter. Some of the wicked ideas we already have are 3D printed Canoli (2 paste) and a very ingenious method for pushing the 3D printed electronics movement.

You can see all of the entries here:http://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/2jhq7z/structur3dio_paste_extruder_contest/

Prizes are:

  • 1st Place - Discov3ry Universal Paste Extruder (Shipping in January) & Cartridge Kit
  • 2nd Place - $100 Gift Card for Structur3d.io
  • 3rd Place - $50 Gift Card for Structur3d.io

Deadline: Nov 5, 2014

Discov3ry Production Update #14

Earlier this week Charles and I (Andrew) were at the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering Conference in Niagara Falls, ON.  I was there to present some of my research on Sustainable Nanomaterials for 3D printing and Charles had the opportunity to introduce the Discov3ry extruder to these materials researchers.  Least to say, they were amazed at the technology and many of the professors from across Canada can't wait to get one of these devices in their laboratories!

At the Chemical Engineering Conference this week we delivered our second Nutella Selfie to Dr. Emily Cranston, a colleague of ours who runs the Sustainable NanoBio Group at McMaster University. They had their group logo printed in some nice bio-based, Nutella. Mmm.
