Discov3ry Update #30

Units heading your way next week!

Hello everyone. We apologize for the delay in getting this update out for you. Our team hit a bit of a slowdown over the last couple weeks due to our need to scale our staff, resulting in a backlog of nearly completed units sitting on the production line. As such, we were not able to hit our goal of getting Production Batch 1 out of the door this last week. For that we apologize. Your support has meant so much to us over this last 8 months and your patience is endlessly appreciated. Please see the note below about the new additions to the team to help us get your Discov3ry to you faster. We have just about caught up with production of that particular part and are planning to ship the majority of Batch 1 next week.

Discov3ry Production Update #12 - First Production Run (Discov3ry Serial #1)

Some more sexy photos of the Discov3ry paste extruder were posted over on GigaOm yesterday.  These are some more detailed closeup shots of Unit #1 we demoed last weekend at World Maker Faire NYC.

We have learned a lot building the first unit and are excited to start scaling the Discov3ry up.  I have given a little more in detail in this week's update for the Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Testing section below.

TL;DR - Sourcing is difficult (not a surprise), Manufacturing unit #1 was a pleasure (timewise), and Testing the device requires some small tweaks (already underway, my current focus).

Discov3ry Production Update #11 - World Maker Faire NYC 2014

Structur3d Printing was at World Maker Faire in New York City over the weekend to demonstrate our Discov3ry technology to over 80,000 Makers.  We had an amazing weekend - we met backers, 3D printed some new paste materials, and made tons of new friends.

We were even featured across Canada in the media for our journey to NYC and our 3D printing of Nutella and other gooey goodness. Sweet.

We were able to manufacture Discov3ry Serial #1 just in time for the weekend with great reception.  We had several of our backers stop by to say hi and the opportunity to get a closeup of what they will be receiving. (One special backer made the trip from Chicago just to see us, thank you!)

We were even chosen by MAKE  for TWO of their editors choice awards - one fromAlice Hill, Managing Director of Maker Media Online, and Anna Kaziunas France, Digital Fabrication Editor at MAKE. Thanks Alice and Anna!

Overall the weekend was a huge success for Structur3d Printing and our vision of expanding the materials available for additive manufacturing.

To see a little bit more of our weekend in New York, we have put together a short Clipter video in and around our space as well as an album of photos from the event.

We are also proud to announce that winner of the Discov3ry give away for the event was Chris Gallizzi. We will be in touch via email to collect more details. Congratulations!

A side note, we also slipped up on announcing our Discov3ry extruder giveaway winner from Detroit, congrats Ted Vandenberg. Sorry for the delay.

Survey Results: Which Pastes People are Most Excited About and Weekly Production Update #7

This update is jam packed with images and info. Enjoy!

I've been looking forward to digging into the survey responses for a while now. The biggest question on my mind was, "What pastes are people excited about 3D printing with?"

The most interesting question was definitely "What Types Of Materials Do You Intend To Print With Using The Discov3ry Paste Extruder"?

Here's what we found out when we looked at the responses:

(Feel free to share that photo wherever you like to go to chat about 3D printing)

More discussion (and pictures) about the data can be found on our blog.
